Day 5-no coke

I do miss it. I"ve wanted one so bad. But I haven't given in. I'm down 4lbs according to my scale. I've been really trying to eat better and smaller portions. I'm supposed to start the liquids tomorrow. The doctor said that I can have one meal per day. I think I'm going to use it for lunch. Origionally I thought dinner, but I think I'll be too tempted at work. At least at home I can go to bed. I may change my mind again-who knows.

I've been tracking my food, water and excersise intake. I'm still bummed about not hearing yet about the authorization, but LD (http://ldswims-journeytoembrace.blogspot.com/) was right. They wouldn't have scheduled the surgery (although tenative) if they thought I wouldn't get approved. I'm trying really hard not to forget that.

I was wondering about after surgery-did any of your doctors fill your band when they put it in? Do you feel different after surgery or not until your first fill?

Thanks guys!

  1. Good job on the coke. Keep it up! Before you know it, you won't even remember it. And then..when you go for a sip of it, you'll think bleck! The first week is the hardest and then it gets better. I did the same thing with Dr. Pepper and now...don't really enjoy it at all.

I think lunch is a good idea. Although I want to be able to enjoy a meal with my sweet hubby. So I am doing dinner. But I'm tempted to switch to lunch, too...break things up a bit. Who knows.

    Thinking good thoughts for you!

And I love the blog! So cute!

  2. You will feel different after surgery whether your surgeon puts fluid in or not. Your stomach will be swollen and there is a band around it so even if no fluid still some restriction. It will take a long time for you to drink liquids, you wont be able to gulp. You will fdeel somethign. I do think that most doctors put some fluid in the band during surgery to "prime' it or something

  4. Good job on Day 5! You can do this. Giving up soda was my hardest obstacle too. I feel your pain.

You do feel some restriction after surgery. It's just not a whole lot in my opinion. I wasn't able to get my first fill until 6 weeks after surgery and then had to wait another month after that and by that time I was dying for a fill because I could almost eat normally as I did before.

  5. Hi Jenny! The countdown begins. Yes, you will feel differently after surgery. I am 4.5 weeks post op and have been stuck a few times. When I eat enough to fill my little pouch-stomach, I feel like if I take another bite, I will explode. Not like before and being too full, but like I can literally NOT eat another bite. I also get this strange pain in my neck/shoulder if I eat too fast or when I am full. I will probably get a fill in the next couple of weeks because I've felt my restriction diminish and I want the support this great tool offers.

  6. Yes, losing the coke will make a huge difference, trust me! And to answer your question, yes my doc put in 4ccs when he put my band in and the first couple of weeks I couldn't imagine it being any tighter because I had no appetite. But now that the swelling has gone down I am hungry more and I can definitely EAT more! So I think a fill will be necessary for me. I am fine now but I don't want to fall back into eating whatever whenever and however much!

  8. Ok, so, where on Long Island are you from and where in florida are you now? I grew up on Long Island (Smithtown, Baiting Hollow and East Moriches) and just recently moved to Ormond Beach, FL.

Great job with the coke. I used to be addicted to Diet Coke and it was murder kicking that habit! I agree with LD, they would not have scheduled you if they didn't think you would be approved. I'm also thinking happy thoughts for you!

  9. I'm having a hard time giving up Coke and diet sodas! I start my pre-op liquid diet in 6 days. So, I guess I'll have no choice! Good job on getting rid of Coke though! I hope you get approved soon! :)
